As mentioned earlier, some performers were absent from the teams. Both Kryzhynka and Kyiv Capitals had only one goalkeeper in the net – Mykyta Petlenko and Artem Mykhailychenko, who made his debut today for the current leaders of the tournament table.
In general, the visiting team had one more field player compared to their opponents. It is worth mentioning that defender Arkhyp Neboian also made his debut for Ihor Arkhypenko’s team.
The first period was dominated by the home team, as they managed to capitalize on one of their opportunities. Melnykov took a shot, and Dvornyk found the back of the net, scoring his first goal of the season. Towards the end of the period, Vadym Shakhraichuk’s team had a two-minute power play but was unable to convert it into another goal.
In the second period, Capitals executed a similar play, with Panchenko delivering a precise pass and Chernenko finishing the scoring opportunity. Kryzhynka also had its chances to attack, including almost 20 seconds of double power play time. However, they were unable to narrow the gap in the score.
Capitals` hockey players put up a strong defense and quickly expanded their lead, scoring three more goals. Karpenko netted a double while Sekirko added another goal to his tally. The home team came out aggressively in the third period and once again, Capitals found the back of the net with a slick play near the far post. This time, Koida outmaneuvered Kryzhynka`s defenders to connect with a pass from Berdniks.
Under the guidance of Vadym Shakhraichuk, Capitals were relentless. Berdniks continued his impressive form by completing an assist hat-trick, while Tyshchenko notched his first goal of the match. Before the final whistle, Valkun and Panchenko also found the back of the net, with Mykhailychenko made a shutout in his debut game.
This victory solidified Kyiv Capitals’ position at the top of the table with 41 point. Additionally, mark your calendars for January 21 when these two teams clash again in the championship matchup.
