The opponents entered the meeting with a few losses in their line-ups, but each team had a roster of 20 hockey players. Notably, Danylo Makarenko took on the role of Kryzhynka`s goalkeeper for the first time since returning from the Universiade.
Ihor Arkhypenko’s players started the game with great energy, resulting in two penalties for the opposing team and nearly a minute of a double power play for the visiting team. However, our team missed the opportunity to capitalize on this advantage.
Shortly after, the home team took control of the game and extended the lead to two goals. Borodai scored off Maksym Zherebko’s assist, outmaneuvering Makarenko, and then Zakharov converted Tolstushko’s shot from the blue line.
As the period drew to a close, Ihor Arkhypenko’s team had another power play, which they used effectively but were denied by Diachenko’s solid defense.
In the second period, Sokil extended the lead. Savchuk made an impressive breakthrough, delivering a pass from behind the goal to find Sobchenko who slipped past Kryzhynka`s defenders effortlessly. Illia seized the opportunity.
As the second period was drawing to a close, Oleg Shafarenko’s team netted another goal. Zakharov scored a double with a precise shot. Following this goal, Makarenko was substituted for Petlenko in goal. Just 2,5 minutes later, Sokil`s striker and Ukrainian national team member secured a hat-trick.
In the final period, our team had numerous chances to score, but unfortunately, Kryzhynka couldn’t score. Meanwhile, Razumov increased Sokil’s lead to six goals, concluding the game with a scoreline of 48 points for Oleg Shafarenko’s side, now three points ahead of their closest rivals – Kyiv Capitals.
It’s worth mentioning that the next game for Sokil is scheduled for February 2 against Storm-Odesa, whereas Ihor Arkhypenko’s team will face Vadym Shakhraichuk’s squad next Friday.
