For the trip to Odesa, our team assembled three lines and headed to the first meeting with the youngest possible squad, where both goalkeepers Petlenko and Makarenko were the most experienced. Unfortunately, Buniak and Cheremnov were absent.
On the other hand, the Odesa team had a full complement of hockey players in their line-up. However, Oleksandr Bobkin and Ruslan Borysenko were unavailable due to their commitments to the youth national team, leaving Serhii Babynets to lead the team.
The game started with more opportunities near Petlenko’s goal, but the Kryzhynka players, along with their goalkeeper, put up a solid defense. In the eighth minute, the hosts had their first power play opportunity after Zelenskyi was penalized, but they couldn’t convert it into a goal.
Despite this, Storm managed to break the deadlock before the end of the first period. Revuka took a shot from close range, and after Petlenko’s initial save, Aleksiuk capitalized on the rebound. The conceded goal was a hard moment for our team, which then let in two more goals before the first break, courtesy of Aleksiuk’s double and Nikonov.
The Odesa team continued their dominance into the second period, quickly doubling their lead in less than two minutes. Kruhliakov netted the first goal for the Storm team, with Kryklia and Trushchenko adding to the scoreline.
By the midpoint of the second period, Oleksandr Bobkin’s team further extended their lead. Tymchenko outplaying Makarenko, who had substituted Petlenko in the previous turn, on his second attempt.
However, that was only the beginning of the action. Aleksiuk secured a hat-trick during the 4×4 game, following which Kryzhynka, just like in the match against Capitals, conceded two goals during their power play. Sydorenko and Kruhliakov each found the back of the net, with the latter scoring a brace.
The third period saw the hosts adding to their tally. Sydorenko netted another double, while Stetsiura added his goal to the scoresheet. The young players on our team also made a mark, as they managed to convert on their power play opportunity for the first time in the game. Neboian capitalized on a pass from Zanevskyi to beat Hordiushyn, taking his first goal of the season.
This goal turned out to be the final one of the match. The teams are set to face off once again tomorrow at 18:00 in their next encounter.
